A growing problem is so-called scams and phishing emails containing Trojans and malware. These emails often appear to come from well-known and trusted companies but come from someone else entirely. Mobitron is one of the companies whose name has been used for this type of fraud.
Spoofing refers to using a fake or borrowed identity. Fraud attempts often involve mass emailing, texting, or phone calls using disguised and fake phone numbers or email addresses. There are online services where fraudsters can easily manipulate phone numbers to make the call or text appear from a well-known bank, company, or relative.
You can see the actual sender by looking at the complete letterhead. Unfortunately, it is very easy for the savvy to mask an email sender to make it look like it comes from a reliable source. There is also nothing we can do as a company to prevent others from using our name in this way other than to report any cases that come to our attention to the police!
There is software that sniffs the internet for email addresses and phone numbers. Sometimes scammers can even randomize numbers by entering a few digits at the beginning and then having a generator do the last few randomly.
Pay attention, and don’t be fooled.
